Shreveport's last open public swimming pool is getting ready to close for the summer.

Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation and Rock Solid Sports say the Southern Hills pool will close for the season on Sunday, August 19.

Eight northwest Louisiana authors will sign copies of their books at the Remember in Shreveport-Bossier When  exhibit at the Louisiana State Museum, 3015 Greenwood Rd. NWLA Veterans Cemetery Memorial Day observation at Keithville cemetery

On Monday, May 28 beginning at 12:00 noon Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery located in Keithville will host a Memorial Day ceremony honoring our country's fallen military personnel. 

General Charles Campbell of the United States Army (Retired) will be featured as the Keynote Speaker at the event.  Colonel Ted Cox, United States Army (Retired) will serve as Master of Ceremonies.

The Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery is located at 7970 Mike Clark Rd.

Goodwill Industries to host Job Fair and Donation Drive

Goodwill Industries of North Louisiana is will be hosting a job fair and donation drive, Saturday, May 12, from 10am – 2pm.

The job fair and donation drive will be held at the Pierremont Store on Bert Kouns (located between Wal-Mart and Tinseltown).  Plus, Lifeshare Blood Centers will be on hand accepting donations. 

Finally, anyone who donates, applies for a job or gives blood will be eligible to win great door prizes including gift certificates to Jack Binion’s Steakhouse, 1800 Prime Steakhouse, Bella Fresca, the Village Grill and much more.

Shreveport Public Assembly & Recreation (SPAR) and Rock Solid Sports will host an open house at the Bill Cockrell Park swimming pool on Saturday, May 12, 2012 from 1:00 - 3:00pm and at David Raines swimming pool of Sunday, May 13 from 2:00 – 4:00pm.

During the open house, Shreveport Fire Department will offer a water safety seminar, followed by open swimming for the general public.
