Early voting begins Saturday for April 6 election

Secretary of State Tom Schedler is encouraging all Louisianians eligible to vote in the April 6 primary election to consider voting early starting this Saturday. Early voting begins Saturday, March 23rd and continues through Saturday, March 30. The polls will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, excluding Good Friday (March 29) and Easter Sunday (March 31).

SPAR's Airport Park Center to offer youth martial arts classes

Shreveport Public Assembly & Recreation (SPAR) Airport Park Community Center has scheduled martial arts classes for youth at the center.  The martial arts class is taught by Sensei Lance Williams of the Way of the Warrior Martial Arts Academy, who will teach Taekwondo, Kick Boxing, Kajukenbo and Self Defense.

The classes will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. for Little Tigers (ages 3-5) and from 6 to 7:30 p.m. for Iron Tigers (ages 6 & up).  The cost of the class is $20.00 monthly.  The center is located at 6500 Kennedy Drive.

CCAA Head Start accepting enrollment applications

The Caddo Community Action Agency, Inc. Head Start Program is now accepting enrollment applications for the 2013-14 school year for children betweeen ages 3-5 and living in Caddo Parish. Children with disabilities are encouraged to enroll.

Enrollment applications for Head Start will be screened the second week of May. Applicants applying after the screening process will be placed on the prioritized waiting list.

LSU Shreveport to Host Regional Social Studies Fair

The 38th Annual Region I Social Studies Fair will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, at LSU Shreveport. This event is hosted by the Division of Continuing Education and Public Service at LSUS.

The Fair is for students in grades 4-12 from public and private schools in Caddo, Bossier, DeSoto and Webster parishes. The event gathers over 300 entries and 400 child participants. The students will present projects in Anthropology, Economics, Geography, History, Political Science and Sociology.

The Shreveport Public Assembly & Recreation (SPAR) Bilberry Park Community Center will host a “Pretty Girls Rock!: Etiquette Lessons for Girls” from 4 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21, at the center located at 1902 Alabama Street.
