NWLA Red Cross moving to new facility, volunteer training starts May 19

The Northwest Louisiana Chapter of the American Red Cross is relocating to a new home.

The new facility is located at 805 Brook Hollow, Shreveport (next to Country Tavern by the auto mall).

The Red Cross still needs financial help from the public to finish paying for the new building.

Do you know what to do if a tornado is approaching your home?

The Caddo-Bossier Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management will be offering a free 20 hour Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training course at the Shreveport Fire Training Academy Theater starting Tuesday May 1, 2012 and running for three additional Tuesday nights from 6:00 P.M.

Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation (SPAR), along with the Robinson Film Center, announce a Movies & Moonbeams feature presentation of Kung Fu Panda 2, rated PG, on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 8:00pm at Valencia Park located at 1800 Viking Drive.

A free Karate demonstration will be provided by Impact Martial Arts Academy at 7:30pm before the movie.

The Kedrick DeWayne Stith Foundation of Shreveport invites the public to participate in their inaugural 5K Sickle Walk.

The event is scheduled for 8 a.m.

SPAR's egg hunts rescheduled

SPAR's egg hunts rescheduled

Due to inclement weather, SPAR has rescheduled their community center Easter egg hunts from Saturday, March 31st to Saturday, April 7th.

The hunts will be from 10 a.m. to noon at all 14 of SPAR’s community centers. The event is free and for children of all ages.

There will be stuffed eggs, prizes and games.

SPAR announces Spring camps

SPAR  announces Spring camps

Shreveport Public Assembly & Recreation (SPAR) will hold spring camps at each of its community centers for Caddo Parish School students out on Spring Break.

The camps are scheduled for 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.  the week of March 26th through March 30th.

Organizers say the Spring Camps will include games, movies, field trips, and other fun activities for youth ages 6 to 12 for the Youth Spring Camp and teens ages 12 – 17 for the Teen Spring Camp.

Space is limited and will be filled on a first come, first served basis.

Food Bank of NW LA preparing for Empty Bowl fundraiser

The Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana is getting ready for its annual Empty Bowls fundraiser with an Empty Bowls Kick-Off Bowl Painting Party.  The party will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 15 in the old Chico’s location (behind Banana Republic) at the Louisiana Boardwalk in Bossier City.
