Caddo Sheriff offering Passenger Van driving class
Caddo Sheriff offering Passenger Van driving class

Caddo Parish is offering a specialized class that trains drivers how to operate large passenger vans. Many churches and non-profit organizations use these vans, and many times they're driven by volunteers.

“These drivers, most of whom are volunteers, are often asked to transport children or other Caddo Parish citizens to events, camps, social functions, and clinics. We want to make sure each driver is properly trained and equipped to handle this responsibility so everyone arrives at their destination safely," Prator said.

The course was developed at the Sheriff's request by instructors with the Caddo Sheriff's Regional Training Academy. It covers specifics of defensive driving for operators of passenger vans.

The course includes classwork and a driving course.  Students who wish to participate in the driving portion must bring their own van.

The course will be conducted from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 30, at the Sheriff’s Training Academy, 15639 Highway One South. It is free to all churches and non-profit agencies in the area. Pre-registration is required, and Caddo Parish residents will be given priority.

Call Deputy Andrea Samuel at 681-0735 for more information.
