Registration for Shreveport/Bossier Angel Tree ends Oct. 31 | Community Spirit
Lower-income parents or guardians who need help with Christmas presents have three days left to sign up for Shreveport-Bossier Salvation Army's Angel Tree program.
Angel Tree is for children 12-years-old or younger. Registration for the program only runs next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (October 29, 30 & 31). Sign up times each day are from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Salvation Army's headquarters, located at 200 E. Stoner Ave. in Shreveport.
K.C. Kilpatrick Stone, the Director of Development for the Shreveport Salvation Army, says they currently have between 5 - 7,000 kids on the Angel Tree list from the 1,150 families who have already signed up. Stone also stressed the Angel Tree program needs community help to fill the present requests. The trees with the children's name and present they want will be available about the 2nd week of November.
To get on the Angel Tree list, the following information must be brought to the registration:
- Proof of identity and age for each person on the application. Apply for child(ren) 0-12 years-old (names, age, and gender of all persons living in the household and one applicant per household), Social Security card or bring official documents such as Medicaid card or AFDC printouts, etc. We must have proof of the child's age. Example: birth certificate, shot record, Medicaid card, school record, etc. Be prepared to give correct sizes for each child.
- Proof of residence such as current utility bill or drivers license showing current address, current mailing address and telephone number.
- Proof of income and expenses for all person in the household. This needs to be official proof, such as check stubs or notice from caseworker for AFDC and food stamps, social security statement, etc. Please bring current budget sheet and bills/statements.
