Compressed natural gas (CNG) is composed of approximately 95 percent methane and is normally stored at 3,600 pounds per square inch (psi) in a special reinforced container. The gas expands when released for use as a fuel.
Natural gas vehicles can be powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquefied natural gas (LNG). CNG travels from pipeline to onboard fuel tanks where it can fuel the following light and medium-duty vehicles:
- light-duty vehicles
- taxis
- medium-duty delivery trucks
- refuse trucks
- school buses
- transit
