SPAR senior program offers piano classes

Shreveport Public Assembly & Recreation (SPAR) announces Piano Classes for Senior Citizens, starting January 22 & 23.

SPAR will hold two classes every quarter. The Basic Piano class will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. each Tuesday at Airport Park Community Center, 6500 Kennedy Drive. The class also will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Bill Cockrell Community Center, 4109 Pines Road.

Shreveport Public Assembly & Recreation (SPAR) Athletics Division kicks off its 1st week of Boys & Girls Youth Basketball League games on Monday, January 14.

Games are played throughout the city of Shreveport at AB Palmer, Airport Park, Bill Cockrell, Lakeside and Southern Hills.

SPAR accepting golf memberships for 2013

Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation golf membership for 2013 is now available for signup.

Memberships are for either 6 months or a year and allow the holder unlimited rounds of golf on both Querbes and Huntington Golf Courses. (Huntington is currently closed for renovation work related to the Shreveport Bond Project.)

Community Foundation announces Return on Investment Award

The Community Foundation of North Louisiana is currently seeking applications for its annual Return on Investment Award.

The winner will be recognized at the Foundation’s annual meeting in April 2013.  The winner will also receive a $5,000 grant award to start or add to an existing agency endowment fund housed at the Community Foundation.

Shreveport Opera to host annual singing competition

Shreveport Opera will host its annual Mary Jacobs Smith Singer of the Year Competition, Shreveport's only national singing competition.

The event starts at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20 at the Anderson Auditorium of Centenary College. Admission is free, but donations to Shreveport Opera are accepted.
