Slam Dunk Contest & Concert this weekend at SUSLA

Shreveport Public Assembly & Recreation (SPAR) along with Academy Sports & Outdoors presents a Slam Dunk Contest & Concert on Friday, February 24, 2012 at 7:30pm at Southern University Shreveport.  The event will be hosted by Radio Station KMJJ DJ Dougie Styles. Performing will be hip-hop group SJ Boyz.  Admission to the event is free.

Family History Assistance Day coming to Broadmoor Library

In celebration of Genealogy Education Month, the Ark-La-Tex Genealogical Association and the Broadmoor Branch Library Genealogy Department will sponsor a Family History Assistance Day on Saturday, March 3 at the Broadmoor Branch Library, 1212 Captain Shreve Drive. Registration begins at 9:00 A.M. in the large meeting room. In the morning there will be two “Family History Skills” presentations.  After a lunch break, the participants will return to the library genealogy department for an “Afternoon at the Library”.

Major accident on Youree Dr. at E. Flournoy

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA)- Shreveport police and fire crews responded to a major accident with injuries at Youree Drive and E. Flournoy Lucas Thursday morning.

The head-on collision happened around 11:20 a.m. Police on the scene believe a pickup truck ran a red light and hit a utility truck heading south on Youree Drive. The exact cause of the wreck is still under investigation, however.

Shreveport Public Assembly & Recreation's (SPAR) Country & Western Dance has been set for Friday, March 2 from 5:30 to 8:00 PM at Southern Hills Community Center,
1002 Bert Kouns Industrial Loop. Music will be provided by the Red River Live Band. Dress up in your country & western finery and hit the dance floor. Everyone is invited and admission is free.
